"Ever wanted to go and explore off the beaten track...?"

As a teacher I have taught navigation and hillcraft to groups of pupils on Dartmoor for fifteen years.
For ten years I was an active member of the Tavistock section of the Dartmoor Rescue Group and regularly organised navigation training sessions as well as assessing the navigation skills of potential members.
In addition I have enjoyed being involved with training Ten Tors teams for a number of years.
I hold the Walking Group Leader Award and have extensive experience of walking and running in mountain areas throughout the UK.
I also contribute monthly articles on aspects of Dartmoor for the West Devon diary.

Very Positive Learning Experience:

Paul provided the training which enabled me to gain the National Navigation Award Scheme (Bronze).

I started from a low level of confidence having certainly not been helped by an unfortunate experience with an earlier and less sympathetic trainer.

Paul covered the basics thoroughly and under his expert tutelage, I found my confidence growing rapidly. His empathetic and skilful teaching,
combined with an obvious enthusiasm for the subject made the learning a rich, positive and stimulating experience. Paul is a trained and natural teacher; he possesses both a genuine desire to help people and the necessary skills to facilitate learning: he has excellent interpersonal skills combined with great patience. I found Paul very keen to share his passion for the great outdoors and for navigation. He is a first class choice for anyone (group or individual) who wishes to develop/enhance their skills in navigation.

To sum up, this was a rich learning experience, thoroughly enjoyable and providing exceptional value for money. I commend Paul highly and recommend him without hesitation to anyone seeking a trainer to assist in developing or enhancing existing skills in navigation or hill craft.

'Perfect for us...'

'Thanks very much indeed for a great two days on the moor. You kept a happy balance between challenge, learning and fun. Perfect for us!
It was good to get something more than a gentle stroll and we all feel a lot more confident with using map, compass, and have moved quite a bit from 'how hard can it be common sense' to 'aha so that's how it looks and works' :~}'
